I spent quite a number of years not really cooking, or if I did, it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. No playing around in the kitchen, just pretty basic stuff. But five years ago or so, out of necessity (read: broke), I started cooking more at home because going out for dinner and buying lunch more days than not, broke the bank.
I began to venture out of my comfort zone, playing around more in the kitchen, toying with flavors, attempting to make foods from different cultures. That was something I had been wanting to do for ages, but when you're in a relationship with someone who has a very limited palate and doesn't go past the meat and potatoes phase, you sometimes find yourself stuck in that same rut.
Not to say I don't have my own ruts now. I do...but my definition of a rut is making sandwiches for dinner all week long instead of a full meal or culling together an antipasti platter from what I have in the fridge. A rut for some, delicacies for others.
All this to say, that the process still moves along. There is a plan slowly making its way to some endpoint. I still find myself thinking of food upon waking up in the morning, In my mind, I see the little grocers all set up with things you didn't know you needed. In the meantime, if you're looking for something to add to your table at your next dinner or cocktail party, check out my site, Semplice Gourmet.
